The CONSORT Bruny Island Battery Trial demonstrated how customer owned distributed energy storage can deliver significant value to the energy network. The ambition of the trial was to experiment with technology that mitigates irregularities in energy. The 34 households that participated were equipped with a solar system, a power battery and a software tool to support increased Distributed Energy Resources (DER). The instalment of batteries in households makes the trial interesting because it shifts the relationships between the consumer and energy supplier/ grid operator.
